Ghana’s Under 20 national female team will kick start their World Cup campaign today in Toronto when they face host and group A opponents, Canada at the Toronto national stadium at exactly midnight GMT.

The Black Princess will be playing in their third consecutive World Cup appearance and will hoping to improve upon their previous appearances  in 2010  and 2012 which saw them exit from the competition at the group stage.

Heading into today’s game, the Princess will also be seeking to make an impressive start and fuel the gathering momentum to enable them progress out of a tough group comprising of 2006 champions, North Korea, hosts Canada and Finland.

Road to Canada

The Black Princess’s road to the finals in Canada was not a tedious one. They drew by in both their 1st and 2nd round of qualification after their opponents, Guinea Bissau and Uganda withdrew from the competition.

They then faced Equatorial Guinea for the final qualifying round and edged them out during a penalty shoot-out at the Accra Sports stadium before qualifying for the tournament.
