Industrial relations expert, Kofi Dovor has called on the leaders of various trade union groups in the country to caution government against accepting any condition for job cuts during negotiations for the bailout with the International monetary Fund.

The Government of Ghana announced on Tuesday to open talks for a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to enable it halt the depreciation of the cedi and restore economic stability.

“The ultimate objective is to stabilize the cedi in order that domestic prices…will be brought under control and therefore that is a consumer welfare of what is to be done,’’ Minister of Finance, Seth Tekper said.

This decision has sparked fear among trade union groups across the country with many of them expressing worry over possible condition for job cuts in the public sector.

Mr. Davor in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, insisted the deteriorating economic condition in the country makes it difficult for government to resist the IMF.

He however asked the leaders of the various trade union groups not be perturbed by government’s decision to apply for a bailout but rather caution government’s negotiators to reject any conditions involving job cuts.
