Teachers to be registered for licensing

The National Teacher’s Council will soon undertake a mass licensing of pre-tertiary education teachers across the country to ensure efficiency and professionalism in their work.

The pilot project is expected to commence in October before the actual registration exercise kicks off later in 2015.

Briefing the press on Monday, the Executive Secretary-designate of the National Teacher’s Council, Dr Augustine Tawiah revealed that, teachers in both private and public school will be registered.

According to him, the rationale behind this project is to ensure that, teachers are well trained and teachers and competent enough to man the various educational institutions in the country.

This project is also expected to help the council determine why pupils in private schools do better that their public school counterparts at the basic level.

Mr. Tawiah further revealed that, licensing office will also focus on research to help improve education at the basic level.
