The independent presidential candidate in the 2012 elections, Mr Joseph Osei Yeboah, aka JOY, has urged the government to honour Mr Martin Amidu, a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, to prove to the world that Ghanaians value patriotism.
He explained that this would also be a motivator for the younger generation to suffer for the betterment of the nation.
Mr Yeboah said once the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court, had come out with the verdict in favour of Mr Amidu, it meant that the country’s judiciary had done their duty for the nation and it also ought to be commended.
He also commended President John Dramani Mahama and his government, the legislature, the media and Ghanaians as a whole for the constant vigilance and showing of interest in the proceedings and verdict on the Woyome saga.
The independent candidate observed that the verdict was a victory for all Ghanaians, as well as Woyome, since he had been courageous in going through this ordeal to its conclusion.
He said Mr Woyome did not attempt to abscond but argued his case to its logical conclusion, thereby assisting to enrich the legal history of the country.
Mr Yeboah appealed to the National Democratic Congress-led government to recover the money and channel it into building at least the 25 senior high schools the ruling party promised Ghanaians in its manifesto to serve as a reference point for public office-holders.
He noted that public office-holders would take a cue from the recovery of the funds by taking care of government resources placed at their disposal as they risked losing their lifetime savings when they misappropriated them.
