The Coalition of NDC Youth in Tamale has commended President John Mahama’s appointment of Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah as Trade and industry Minister.

Dr. Spio Garbrah was among the newly appointed Ministers in the President Ministerial reshuffle.

According to the group, President Mahama needs such an intelligent politician in his administration to help him deliver the NDC’s 2012 campaign promises in line with the Better Ghana agenda.

The Coalition described Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah as a time tested politician who is internationally connected and capable of encouraging investors into the country.

At a news conference in Tamale, the Coalition’s chairman, Bashiru Ibrahim commended President Mahama for his foresight.

“One does not need to be a rocket Scientist to realize that our dear nation Ghana has reached the global stage where appointments are done based on people who have been tried and tested and have proven their worth to be in governance and their ability to deliver.”

“We are therefore not surprised that at this juncture, His Excellency President John Mahama has seen the wisdom to bring on board the former CEO of Commonwealth Telecommunications, Dr. Spio Gabrah to help solve the economic problems that are facing the nation,” he stated.

Bashiru Ibrahim expressed confidence in the potential of the former Minister of Communications and Education to help President Mahama restore the hope of Ghanaians.

“While we congratulate Dr. Ekow Spio Grabrah on his appointment, we equally challenge him to help contribute to the growth and development of mother Ghana.”

“Above all, we call on Dr. Spio Garbrah to do all he can to help establish more factories and industries in Ghana which can create more jobs to help reduce the unemployment problem and also to fight to prevent the cedi from further decline.”

Bashiru Ibrahim reaffirmed the Coalition’s determination to campaign for more votes in the Northern Region to retain President Mahama’s administration in 2016.

He however called for unity within the NDC and advised all party members to avoid character assassination and division which he said could arm the opposition New Patriotic Party to divide their front.

“We also call on our brothers and sisters in the NDC party especially his cabinet colleagues and those at the party headquarters to collaborate with him to give his best without hindrance.”

The Coalition of NDC Youth in Tamale membership includes Binchara Youth Association, Jerigu Zeyala Youth Association, Kukuo Last Stop Youth Association and NDC Young Intellectuals Group.
