A group of students from the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in the Korea Republic have held a forum with students of Regent University campus in Accra.
The event which was organized on the 28th of July 2017 was to mark the end of the one month stay of the student of (UNIST) who have been interacting, learning and training with their counterparts from the Regent University as part of their volunteer work in ICT.
Present at the occasion were the vice president of the Regent University, the Dean of student, Dean of graduate school, Head of the ICT Department and the Registrar of the Regent University.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the forum, the vice president Mr. Amonu lauded the UNIST for engaging with students of the Regent University.
“I am so delighted about the impact the student volunteers for UNIST had impacted on their student body in the fields of ICT and culture, especially in the area of web application which will go a long way to help them in their studies and also affect their own contribution to the societies development,” he said.
He stated that the volunteers have taken the students through android application developments which will give them an edge over their peers in the field of ICT.
Quoting a speech by Steve Ballmer, former CEO of Microsoft, Mr. Amonu said “The number one benefit of information Technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do, it lets people be creative, it lets people be productive, it lets people learn things they didn’t think they could learn before so in the sense it’s all about potential that is to say things that we are capable of doing”.
He also reiterated that with the four weeks of training from the Korean volunteers, the students have benefited from ICT application in business community and its application in governance.
