The Police Administration says it is ready to police and protect workers who will be demonstrating at Organised Labour’s demonstration on Thursday.
According to the police, the general public should feel free to go about their daily ‘’economic and social activities’’ without fear as it is in full control.
‘’ The Police wish to assure the public that the necessary preparation, within the constraints earlier communicated, have been made to ensure law and order, for the citizenry to go about their daily economic and social activities without let or hindrance,’’ a statement signed by the Director General, Public Affairs Dept. of the Ghana Police, Rev David Ampah-Bennin (DCOP) said.
The statement further noted that the police can be reached on the emergency numbers; MTN and VODAFONE – 18555, ALL OTHER NETWORKS – 191.
Organised Labour declared a one-day national protest and is asking all workers under the umbrella to boycott work on Thursday, 24th July, 2014.
”…To back these demands and as a demonstration of our serious concern over the existing state of affairs, Organised Labour declares a one day national protestation on Thursday July 24, 2014,” said the General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Kofi Asamoah.
He explained that on that day, “all workers including those of you in the media, formal and informal are to stay away from work and converge at designated locations in Accra and other regional capitals to demonstrate.”
Organised Labour ‘s protest will be demanding that the government pay immediate attention to the following demands;
- An immediate action by government to halt the depreciation of the Cedi and the rising cost of living.
- Immediate policy initiatives and measures to ensure the requisite infrastructure, including put on stream the gas pipeline and efficiency in the production and distribution of electricity, water and other utilities to assure citizens against price hike
- Immediate downward review of prices of petroleum products
- Immediate and effective policy measures to ensure that TOR operates in full capacity
- Immediate and concrete measures to ensure that the railway sector is revamped and the plight of the workers addressed, etc

The Ghana Police Service has finalizes arrangements to police the Organised Labour’s demonstrations scheduled for tomorrow Thursday 24th July, 2014.
The Police wish to assure the public that the necessary preparation, within the constraints earlier communicated, have been made to ensure law and order, for the citizenry to go about their daily economic and social activities without let or hindrance.
We would like to appeal to the organizers of the demonstrations to manage and control their membership to ensure the evnts are conducted in a peaceful manner, in conformity with the Public Order Act 491/94.
Once again, we wish to remind the public that they can reach the Police on the emergency numbers below with pieces of information that will help to ensure peaceful events.
