The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) says government so far not shown enough commitment to retrieve monies owed the state by Subah Info solutions.
The Executive Director of the GII, Vitus Azeem told Citi News, government’s failure to recover these monies shows it is not committed to the fight against corruption in Ghana.
“Government is not doing well. It is not showing an example of commitment to the fight against corruption and ensuring that state resources are efficiently used,” hes said.
Subah Info solutions was alleged to have been paid GHC 144 million for no work done after it was contracted by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in 2010 to provide telecom traffic monitoring services.
Subsequently, a government investigative committee exonerated the firm arguing that Subah justifiably incurred cost in executing the contract for which reason it was paid GHC 74.3 million and not GHC 144 million.
Mr. Azeem insists government should take urgent steps to recover the money since there was no work done because “it is enough grounds for you [government] to terminate the contract.”
Several groups have made calls for the government to retrieve the said amount from Subah Info Solutions and other funds dubiously paid to some state agencies such as the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA) and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).
The Institute of Economic Affairs has indicated that donor partners are most likely to withhold funds due to such developments.
Some individuals are in court over their involvement in making wrongful payments under GYEEDA and SADA.
Mr. Azeem however maintains the government is “not serious about recovery this money.
