Imagine you were a Ghanaian player who suddenly finds himself in the glamour of European football, dreams realized.

That first pay cheque arrives with a hefty sum larger than anything you have ever earned in your life. Now you have the means to afford all the good things in life.

What would you spend the money on?

I tried answering that question with the help of a few suggestions from readers on Twitter .

Fair women

It can be said on casual observation that Ghanaian footballers in Europe love dating fair women. The list is endless. There is an unwritten rule that once you have the cash, the required “accessory” is the beautiful, fair colored damsel to confirm the status as a newly rich footballer from Ghana.

High powered vehicles

It started with the legendary Hummer, followed by Cadillac Escalade, then came the Infinity and then the Murano.

These days a Range Rover,a Dodge Charger or a Porsche in any form is the vehicle of choice. So far as it has a large engine and can be heard from a mile away at top speed,it is a must have.

A few not too rich ones go in for the Toyota Camry with darkened windows and expensive alloy rims but what do they have in common? Large engines.

Oh and let me add that Matte Black paint is also a necessity.

Tattoos (Body Ink)

I will not assume most of our high earning dudes understand the culture of tattoos but we can safely say that new pay cheque will have a chunk spent on a little ink.

From drawings of powerful animals,to names of lovers and religious quotations, tattoos are also very much a part of the noveau rich Ghanaian footballer.

Bad Hair

My mother’s favourite question to me about Ghanaian footballers is why most of them have such “strange haircuts”.

The mohawk is the current king of the class among the Ghanaian football society with all kinds of variations.

There is the gold dye, there is the braided side or top and then there is the dread locked or clean shaven sides. Who can forget Mubarak Wakaso’s ridiculous style at the AFCON in 2013?

The barbers definitely earn their keep from the Ghanaian footballer.

Move to East Legon

It must be the good neighbourliness in that part of town because EVERY footballer in Ghana moves there once the pocket becomes heavy enough.

Be it on lease or wholly owned, East Legon is the hub of Ghanaian footballers.
