The Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Kanor Nene Sakite II has admonished university graduates to move away from only striving to get their names on monthly payrolls and use their knowledge to solve Ghana’s insatiable challenges.

He said there are several challenges that confronts the nation and Africa at large that needs graduates to think through the problem to ensure solutions.

Nene Sakite II was speaking at the second congregation for the conferment of Masters of Public health degree of some 46 graduates of the Ensign College of Public Health at Kpong in the Eastern Region.

“Believe me or not, there are many illiterate and non performing graduates in the developing world today. Graduates who become content with their hood and cake, who only strife to guarantee their names on the monthly payroll and stop there instead of strifing for greater things. If you belong to that class of graduates, you will soon become stale.”

He said there are several health problems and research to be conquered in both the cities and the rural communities of Ghana and other West Africa countries that require urgent attention from graduates across the continent.

“There are mountains of health problems to be conquered in the cities and the rural communities of Ghana and as a matter of fact in the West African corridor. They are vast areas of research not yet tackled.”

He said it is surprising that there are graduates who would only accept to work in the big cities and some who would only want to acquire huge bank accounts instead of helping to solve challenges.

He challenged the graduates to be an outstanding scholars who have the right training to find solutions to problems.

“There are graduates who would only accept to work in the big cities and some who would only want to acquire huge bank accounts instead of bringing their expertise to bear.”

“A master’s graduate in public health, I hope is equipped with the riffle and grenade to combat diseases. Probably mosquitoes today have graduates who are developing tougher poison to spread malaria. Who will win the battle? I count on you young Public health graduates to win this battle of the numerous health challenges that confronts us as a people,” he added.
