An Accra High Court has adjourned hearing of the case involving the Chinese woman believed to be deeply engaged in illegal mining in Ghana, Aisha Huang and four others, because both parties rejected the Chinese interpreter.

This follows concerns raised by both defence and prosecution lawyers that the interpreter, Yun Chin York, who is a Chinese national and a law student, could possibly not give an accurate interpretation due to his understanding of the law.

[contextly_sidebar id=”qRWQWkuUwmnqWgU5sjNZoP1zjumPD7uo”]The lawyers therefore prayed the court for a Ghanaian Chinese interpreter whom they believe would not prejudice the case.

The Judge, Justice Edward Ekow Baiden, adjourned the case to July 21, 2017, and ordered the chief interpreter of the judicial service to ensure he gets another person on the adjourned date.

Aisha Huang granted bail

Aisha is facing prosecution alongside four other Chinese nationals, after they were arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service over her alleged involvement in illegal mining in an area belonging to the Volta Resources Company Limited.

The court on June 16, 2017, granted Aisha Huang bail.

According to the court, the prosecution did not demonstrate how the accused will interfere with investigations if granted bail.
