2 arrested for allegedly stealing cattle in Nanumba

Two persons are currently in the grip of Police in Wulensi in the Northern Region in a cattle robbery case.

The two, who are currently assisting Police investigation, allegedly stole five cattle belonging to some nomads at Nakpayili, a community in the Nanumba South District.

The alleged robbery took place on Monday evening when the two persons together with some accomplices captured some five cattle at Nakpayili and tried putting them into a Benz bus.

However, lack run out on them when they were accosted by the cattle owners. They started shooting at the owners upon seeing them at a distance.

One of the nomads whose name was given as Mohammed, who narrated the incident to Citi News, said they took cover when the firing was ongoing, and immediately reported to some Police personnel who were at a nearby barrier.

“…When we got closer, some of the people started shooting at us. We immediately went to a neighbouring barrier to report the case to the police to see whether they could give us assistance.”

He added that some of the townsfolk upon hearing the gunshots also dispatched a search party to the scene.

“Some people also came from Nakpayili to assist us. When they came, we managed to chase the shooters. We finally got hold of the bus and we realized that the cows belonged to us, but they were only two and three others missing. We reported the case to the police,” he added.

He noted that Police from Wulensi were also informed about the issue adding that they helped to capture two of the suspects.

“Two of the suspects are currently in police custody of which one came to claim ownership of the Benz bus,” he added.

Speaking to Citi News, the District Police Commander for Nanumba South, DSP Boakye, said the two are assisting with investigations.
