Assembly members of the Sene East District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Abraham Mbanye as District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area at a special session convened on Thursday.

All 27 members of the assembly were present and voted YES to endorse the nominee.

The confirmation exercise became necessary following the re-nomination of Mr. Mbanye by the President for a second attempt at the post.

When he was first nominated, the nominee faced protest from some aggrieved residents and party sympathizers who rejected his appointment and petitioned the President to withdraw him.

He obtained only 17 out of the 27 votes cast missing the constitutional requirement of two-thirds majority votes by a single vote.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh in an address after the acceptance vote, commended the assembly members for giving the nominee a 100% endorsement and urged them to put the past behind them and unite to fight their common enemy of poverty and underdevelopment.

He said as a DCE, he represents the interest of all irrespective of political affiliations and encouraged residents to contribute ideas and resources for the development of the area and urged the DCE to open his doors to all for sustained development.

The DCE for his part, thanked the President, the Assembly members and all stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to unite the area for accelerated development of the area.

He outlined Education, Health, Social infrastructure and Peace as the main pillars to propel the district’s development and called for support from Chiefs and all stakeholders.

Before his appointment, Hon. Abraham Mbanye was a teacher at Kwame Danso Senior High Secondary and was the party’s Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for 2016 elections.

He is 38 years old and is married.

The confirmation process completes the full set of 27 MDCEs confirmation in the region.
