Ghana loses 1-0 to Mexico in friendly

The Black Stars were beaten 1-0 by Mexico in an international friendly played in Houston, Texas on Wednesday night.

The match was the second one for Kwesi Appiah, in terms of the national team A, since he took over in April from former coach Avram Grant.

The Stars were without Jordan and Andre Ayew and Daniel Amartey so Appiah handed starts to Isaac Sackey in midfield and Lumor Agbenyenu in defence.defence.

Abdul Majeed Waris and Raphael Dwamena were paired in attack while Ebenezer Ofori and Thomas Agyepong reprised their roles in the team after playing against Ethiopia in the AFCON 2019 qualifier earlier this month.

The Mexicans made them pay in the 31st minute Elias Hernandez scored a penalty after John Boye fouled his man.

Ghana wend looking for the equaliser but they were not successful and the score stayed the same until the end of the match.

The loss was Ghana’s third to Mexico in friendlies after defeats in 2006 and 2008.

Ghana will now play against the United States in another friendly match on July 1 in Connecticut.
