Some residents of Assin Dansame in the Assin North Municipality of the Central Region are incensed over a corpse that has been exhumed and left at the community centre.

The corpse, laid in a coffin, has been left in the middle of the community for hours after the Chief of the town was alleged to have ordered it to be exhumed with the reason that the deceased did not take part in communal labour while alive.

On Monday, the corpse of Koo Emma, a member of the Asona family in the town, was buried, but some few hours later, the alleged order from the Chief was carried out by some youth in the town.

The body has since been carried to the community centre after it was initially left at the roadside by the youth who carried out the instruction.

Residents say it was exhumed at 1:oop.m, but it was still in the open as at 7:00p.m, though police were still in the community over the matter.

Besides the mounting tension in the town, residents have complained bitterly about the discomfort they are going through due to the presence of the body.

Some say they fear there could be spiritual consequences, while others indicated they have been unable to eat since afternoon because of the corpse.

Assin Dansame has been battling a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the ruling Asene and the Asona family, and most residents are attributing the incident to the dispute.
