Upper East: Church donates to visually impaired residents

The Latter Day Saints Church last Friday donated white canes for the visually impaired in the Upper East Region.

The 120 white canes are to facilitate the movement of persons with visual impairment in the region.

Presenting the items to beneficiaries in Bolgatanga, Director Institutional Care Division of the Ghana Health Service Dr. Samuel Kaba expressed gratitude to the Latter Day Saints for their intervention in supporting the visually impaired.

Upper East Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Kofi Issah asked the beneficiaries to utilize the white canes and not sell them.

The Regional Chairman of Ghana Federation of Disabled Youth, Mr. Mark  Akuberi who underscored the uses of the white cane in showing directions, and serving other purposes thanked the Latter Day Saints for their contribution towards the visually impaired.

He indicated that the high cost of purchasing a white cane coupled with the lack of capacity to manufacture some in Ghana is affecting easy mobility of visually impaired persons.

He appealed to other benevolent organisations and philanthropist to also support in diverse ways to improve the livelihood of the visually impaired.
