As Ghanaians grieve over the horrendous murder of the late officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, Major Maxwell Mahama, tributes have been pouring in from sympathizers to pay their last respect to the young promising soldier.

Tributes were received from the President of the Nation, Nana Addo, former Presidents, Security Services, Religious and Civil Society Organizations as well as celebrities in the entertainment industry including popular Dance Hall Artist, Shata Wale, who even composed a song in his memory.

Of all the deluge of tributes, a poem written by one of the close friends of the deceased in the Ghana Armed Forces, Captain Prince Karl Abanah, which went viral on social media, got most readers reacting to it emotionally.

His skillfully written but sad piece, portrays the lamentation of the late captain to his mother, explaining how he was slayed by the very people he was asked by his nation to defend.

A level 100 Theater Arts student of the University of Education Winneba, Priscilla Alswell Akpablie, in sharing in the nationwide grieving, decided to recite the poem written by the late Captain’s friend.

The deceased was lynched and partly burnt by some youth of Denenkyira-Obuasi in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region on Monday, May 29, 2017, on suspicion that he was an armed robber.

The family has announced Friday, June 9, 2017, as the burial date of their fallen son.

Take a listen to the recited poem below.
