A 38-year-old man was on Thursday afternoon shot dead by suspected robbers at Nangodi in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region.
The robbers were attacking a vehicle moving from Sankansi to Bolgatanga, when they shot the deceased, Burtlow Bugbire, who was searching for his missing donkeys in a nearby forest along with two others.
A brother to the deceased, Tenga George, told Citi News that, “I received a call from one of the three who were searching for their missing donkeys in the Nangodi forest that my brother (Burtlow Bugbire) had been shot dead by armed robbers.”
The four armed robbers using motorbikes robbed a vehicle around the Tilli Forest, a suburb of the Zebilla district,and then fled into the forest.
“So when the deceased saw them dressed strangely in the forest, he drew closer to them to ascertain what they were doing there, but upon getting to them, one of the robbers pulled out a pistol and shot the deceased three times in the head leading to his death. They also took away a locally manufactured gun used by the deceased for hunting.”
The body of the deceased was brought to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital by family members accompanied by a police detective from the Nabdam district police station, Peter Mireku.
Mr. Mireku declined to speak to Citi News on the matter, but stated that investigations have commenced to get the perpetrators and bring them to book.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional mortuary.
The deceased, Mr. Murtlow Bugbire, who hails from Kotintabig, a suburb of Sakote until his fortunate demise, was a farmer married with three children.
