CEO of Box Office Productions, Alex Ntiamoah, has called for larger injections of funds through sponsorship for local boxing to develop.

He said the absence of money has left the sport reeling and that has hampered the production of top boxing talents to compete for world titles.

“You know that boxing thrives on sponsorships and I am calling on corporate Ghana to come on board and help out because we have a lot of talents in Ghana.

With their help, we can improve our standards and ensure that we grow our boxers here. There is no need to sending them outside for long periods of training,” said Ntiamoah in an interview with Citi Sports on Tuesday.

He went further to say that the African continent has a lot of examples of how sponsorship has helped local structures to develop boxers.

“If you go to places like South Africa and Namibia, you will this going on and the boxers from those countries are doing well these days. Why should we not follow the same route? I believe that can work things out but we need the corporate bodies to help up.”

Ntiamoah, who organised the very popular “Judgement Night” fight involving Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers fight at the Accra Sports Stadium in May this year, is already preparing his next major promotion on the 9th of August and he mentioned that would feature very good boxers who would be an improvement on the fighters on the “Judgement Night” bill.

“The last time, we had good talents but in August, we will showcase better boxers. They are itching to be seen on a good platform. I am working on having guys like George Ashie, Emmanuel Tagoe and a few others on the bill.

What is concrete is that Duke Micah will be defending his African Flyweight title against a Nigerian opponent. We are negotiating with the opponent and soon, we will make these things public.”
