The National Executive Council of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has called on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to restore the annual salary increments.
The association said the increment was frozen when the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) was implemented and called on the FWSC to ensure that all arrears due them are paid by the end of March 2014.
Members of CLOGSAG made the call in a communiqué issued and signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Issac Bampoe Addo, at the end of a three-day meeting held in Cape Coast.
The association resolved that payment of premium to staff of the civil and local government services should be addressed immediately by the Government.
It also asked that particular attention should be given to the recommendation of the committee set up by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations in October 2013, to bring equity and fairness in the administration of the public service.
CLOGSAG said after four years of the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy, the FWSC should open negotiations on the category 2 and 3 allowances.
They further requested that prompt action on the determination of the basis for calculating past credits which was the accumulated portion that would have been paid as lump sum gravity by the Social Security and National Investment Trust (SNNIT) up to December 31, 2009 and resulting amounts should be paid without delay to the trustees.
“The five percent accumulated funds from January 1, 2010 to date should be transferred to the trustees,” they added.
It further urged the government to take adequate steps to replace all obsolete equipment, provide necessary tools and create safe and congenial work environment to improve efficiency within the Civil and Local Government services.
“Government should call its appointees to order to desist from the practice of intimidating and calling for immediate postings to avoid open confrontation,” it said.
The communiqué also called on the government to take sustainable steps to halt the depreciation of the cedi, and that, parliament should take a critical look at the laws on the fuel pricing to alleviate the current suffering of the masses, including public service servants, resulting from the constant changes in the prices of goods and services.
