Dr Lawrence Tetteh, a Ghanaian international evangelist, on Sunday asked the citizenry not to lose faith in the ailing economy, since through collective efforts and sharing of ideas it could be healed.
“People should not be too eager to criticise the economy when they are in the position to contribute ideas to resuscitate it and to be too eager to take credit when things are going well,” he said.
Dr Tetteh was speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency, as a prelude to the 2014 Youth Fellowship (YAF) of the Adabraka Presbyterian Church in Accra, on the theme: “These things must stop.”
The fellowship, which comprises a five-day revival, was preceded by a float on Friday July 11.
Dr Tetteh, Economist and the Guest of Honour at the fellowship, said Ghanaians should not politicise issues of the economy and rather come together to contribute ideas to give it a good health.
“Instead of the blame game, Ghanaians have a collective responsibility to assist the government to salvage the economy.
“Healing of the national economy is the sole responsibility of Ghanaians, regardless of party colours.
“As an economist I give my technical advice when necessary to those who are in the position to take it, to solve some of the challenges of the economy. But as an Evangelist I also know that it is not by default that people are appointed to be in authority.
“It is therefore wise and helpful that Ghanaians do their physical, emotional and psychological best to help the government in power to facilitate development. Spiritually we must also pray for wisdom, understanding and knowledge for members of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary.”
Speaking on the theme for the fellowship, he said the lukewarm attitude of Ghanaians and the passion to undermine peoples’ achievement and prestige in the society should change for the better since it does not promote national integration.
Mr Frank Addo, YAF Secretary said on Saturday July 19, there would be a health walk at Oyarifa in the Greater Accra Region to Aburi in the Eastern Region, where members would converge at the local Presby Women’s Training Centre for a socialisation programme.
He said Mr Daniel Owusu-Addo, President of the fellowship would be the anchor man for the thanksgiving service of the celebration, on July 20.
