Mayor of Tamale, Abdul Hanan Gundado has asked law enforcement agencies in the area to intensify their patrols to flush out troublemakers.

He said Tamale could not continue to gain mass media prominence for the wrong reasons.

Mr. Gundado in an exclusive Citi News interview said, “The only way by which we can develop is to maintain peace by ensuring that law and order thrives within the city: Tamale cannot continue to be in the news for the wrong reasons.”

He insisted, “We need to stabilize, we need to ensure that we spot the troubles very early and ensure that we move our security men and women to do their work.”

Mr. Gundado highlighted that the Assembly’s development agenda could be well executed only in an atmosphere of peace.

“We have tried to reorient people to understand that nobody is going to come from anywhere and develop Tamale for us, it is the indigenes or inhabitants within the Tamale Metro area who can only propel development within the city and this principle has been widely accepted.”

He reiterated the political establishment’s pledge not to interfere in the independent operations of law enforcement agencies.

“Political establishment will stay away from the operations or activities of security personnel to enable them about their independent duties.”

He promised the law enforcement agencies logistical support saying, “My principle has been that the law enforcement agencies should go about their duties and I have also ensured that all the support in terms of logistics that they require in order that they do their job effectively within the Tamale Metro area are provided.”

Mr. Gundado equally pleaded with traditional and opinion leaders to collaborate with the law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order.

He commended residents of the Tamale Metropolis for their peaceful co-existence over the years and urged them to sustain the peaceful environment to attract investors.
