A group calling itself ‘Concerned Tertiary Students of the Upper East region’ has threatened to demonstrate at the Flagstaff House on Monday, July 14 if President John Mahama refuses to reinstate Dr Avea Nsor as Upper East Regional Minister.

According to them, Dr Avea Nsor was as effective Regional Minister whose absence would have grave effects on the development of the region.

They described the Minister designate, James Zuuga Tiigah, as a hindrance to the development of the region.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Concerned Tertiary Students, Ibrahim Abdulai, said the only way they could effectively and efficiently draw the President’s attention to his reshuffle is to continue with their demonstrations both in the region and the national capital, Accra.

He asked: “Why should we allow someone with poor knowledge in the local governance system of our country to gamble with the development of our region at this critical moment?”

“And why should we accept a Minister who demonstrates very little knowledge of the serious development challenges facing our poor region?” he added.

They described their scheduled demonstration as an innovative exercise that will compel the President to “act and respond positively” to the numerous petitions that they have already presented.
