The Yiyamba primary school in Gushiegu district of the Northern Region is still shut down.

With a student population of about 175, the only three teachers posted to the community fled the area following renewed clashes between two Konkomba clans about two months ago.

The school was still shut down as at Thursday July 3, 2014 during a visit to the troubled Yiyamba farming community.

This came to light when the Northern Regional NPP Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu visited the Yiyamba and Biriyamba Konkomba settlements in Gushiegu to reconcile his kinsmen.

Assemblyman for the Katani electoral area in Gushiegu, Ngmariba Ibrahim told Citi News the three teachers have vowed never to return to the community.

He also complained about some Junior High School students from the Yiyamba community’s resolve to stop schooling in other parts of the Gushiegu district after the conflict.

Some of the students said they were unsure of their safety schooling outside the community.

The peace broker, Daniel Bugri Naabu appealed to his kinsmen to stop buying weapons and invest in their children’s education.

Citi News gathered that the Yiyamba primary school was built by a Non Governmental Organization called Alliance for Change under the auspices of School for life.
