Education authorities in the Yendi Municipality have disclosed that the area has a deficit of 800 professional teachers.

Yendi Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Issah Seidu grieved over professional teachers who are natives of the area’s refusal or rejection postings to deprived communities.

He told Citi News that the few teachers posted to deprived communities commuted to their duty points and returned to Yendi Township daily due to lack of accommodation and inducement.

He said the education sector was bedeviled culminating into the falling standard of education in the Municipality.

He also mentioned teacher absenteeism and inadequate infrastructure as some of the challenges.

Issah Seidu called for government’s immediate intervention to positively turn the wheel of fortune around in the education sector.

He also appealed to civil society organizations and philanthropists to support the education sector with teaching and learning materials.
