The Police Motor Traffic Transport Department, (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has asked motorists in Accra to park their private vehicles and join public transport during the two day ECOWAS meeting on Thursday and Friday.

“…Our advice is that if it’s possible Thursday and Friday use public transport; park your cars and join the public transport for the two days so that you don’t get yourself inconvenienced,’’ he said.

According to the Police it is anticipating massive vehicular traffic when Heads of State and government in the West African sub-region converge on Accra for a summit.

President John Dramani Mahama, in his capacity as Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS), will be hosting leaders of the sub-region at a two-day summit in Accra, on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th July.

The mid-year Summit of ECOWAS will consider a report on the Community’s main activities and projects over the first half of this year to be presented by the ECOWAS Commission President, Mr. Kadre Desire Ouedraogo.

The leaders are also expected to discuss a recommendation for the introduction of biometric ID cards for all ECOWAS citizens and the abolition of residence permit requirements for all citizens within Member States.

The current Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, will also engage the attention and concern of the leaders attending this Summit.

The Police MTTD is however, notifying the general public that there will be some major road blocks during the period.
