Even before the committee investigating the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) loss in the December 2016 presidential elections presents its report, the NDC Member of Parliament for Yunyoo in the Northern Region, Joseph Bipoba Naabu has blamed former President Mahama for the electoral defeat.

According to the MP, the former President surrounded himself with inexperienced people who only misled him.

[contextly_sidebar id=”DvnoM6SJueifeo2xqQMdVRkLtMR1CgeU”]He told Citi News, the Cocoa farming community particularly, voted against the former President and the NDC out of anger.

“He allowed those working around him like Omane Boamah, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Baba Jamal and other presidential staffers like Stan Dogbe to influence him. These small boys who have not even rented a room by themselves, have not been able to buy a car, had this opportunity and they were just talking carelessly, insulting people and he was listening to them. Could you believe that someone like Bagbin went to him [Mahama] to meet him and people like Stan Dogbe gave instructions that he cannot see him.

“Look at Opuni at COCOBOD…MP for Jomoro visited him several times and he [Opuni] spoke carelessly …Most of the cocoa workers refused to vote for the President because they complained to the President to remove Opuni but the President refused.”

A thirteen member committee led by Prof. Kwesi Botchway was tasked to investigate what accounted for the party’s historic defeat after the former President lost to President Nana Addo.

But the Yunyoo Member of Parliament believes the work of the Kwesi Botchwey Committee will come to nought.

“That committee they set up, will not come out with good results because of the way they are working…Why can’t they go to every constituency and meet them one by one. You can even gather all the executives and meet them and talk.”
