The timely intervention of the headmistress of Ketan Catholic JHS in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis prevented the marriage of a 15-year-old JHS 2 student to a 47 year old man.

The parents of the young girl have allegedly betrothed the girl to a Ghanaian based in Saudi Arabia.

However when some classmates of the girl informed the headmistress about an impending marriage,  headmistress Mildred Asante, alerted the assembly member of the area who went to the girl’s house to stop the ceremony.

Speaking to Citi News, she said, “they were asked to cancel the marriage so the Saturday, it didn’t come on so I think the parents are angry with us. When they realized we were serious, they wanted to deceive us into believing that the marriage will come on, and the girl will be going to school afterwards and that it was just an agreement between the father and the family.”
