GPL Week 6: Hearts beat Olympics in derby, Bolga All Stars hold Kotoko

Hearts of Oak emerged winners of the Accra derby after they beat Olympics 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Olympics started the game well but could not get a breakthrough as Hearts managed to put in some good defensive work.

The Phobians took the lead in the 24th minute against the run of play through Paul Acquah. He headed home a cross from the right hand side from Fatawu Mohammed.

But Olympics pushed on and got the equaliser through Benjamin Arthur headed home unmarked in the 39th minute.

The second half was more evenly matched as both teams went for the winner. That went to Hearts in the 80th minute when Inusah Musah poked home after a free kick was sent into the area and it was not properly cleared.

Bolga All Stars got a point against Asante Kotoko in a match which was played at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

Kotoko took the lead through Yakubu Mohammed in the 20th minute but they could not hold as Noah Neequaye found the equaliser in the 85th minute.

AshantiGold lost 4-2 to Bechem United at the Len Clay Stadium.

The Miners were rattled by two first half goals from Alfred Nelson and Akoto Danso but they came back when Tijani Joshua and Kofi Owusu scored for AshGold.

But the recovery was short-lived as Bechem United scored twice through Ahmed Toure to make it 4-2.

Elmina Sharks were 2-1 winners at the Ndoum Stadium against Berekum Chelsea.

Joseph Mensah and Tetteh Nortey scored for Sharks while Justice Anane got the consolation for Berekum Chelsea.

Liberty Professionals did a recovery job at the Carl Reindorf Park in their 2-1 win over Dwarfs.

Dwarfs took the lead through Nicholas Gyan in the first half but Liberty showed strength and found goals from Samuel Sarpong and Emmanuel Sarpong.

WAFA beat Tema Youth 2-1 with goals coming from Abukari Ibrahim and Majeed Asimeru.

Tema Youth took the lead through Joseph Paintsil.

Defending league champions, Wa All Stars, won on the road at Medeama thanks to a goal from Kelvin Matthew Andoh.
