Commercial activities have come to a halt at Nungua, Spintex road, and nearby communities, following a ban by the Nungua Traditional Council.
All the streets in these areas were deserted for traditional rights on Thursday by 10pm, to bury the High Priest of the Ga-Dangme state, Wor-lomor Borketey Larweh-Tsuru I.
The traditional authorities further directed all commercial activities to close today [Friday], despite a contrary directive from the Police.
The ban came into force from 6am today and will end at 6pm.
Citi News’ Anas Seidu who visited the area reported that “no shop has been opened and no commercial activities are going on.”
He said “companies such as the ADB Bank, Ghana Commercial Bank, and other financial institutions have all closed down” as a result of the ban.
According to him, “at the Nungua main lorry park, there were also few vehicles and less passengers.”
He reported that some residents also “complained that there was no food and water to buy.”
No curfew on Nungua – Police
This development contradicts a statement from the Police Service, indicating that the Nungua Traditional Council had rescinded its decision to impose a curfew on the Nungua township and its environs .
The Police Service in a statement said : “After a thorough dialogue between the Police and the Nungua Traditional Authorities, the Traditional council has rescinded its earlier decision to restrict movements of persons, vehicles and commercial activities during the period. “
