Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) is calling on the media and stakeholders to help develop a gender equality policy guideline at various workplaces to act as watchdogs on any violations.

The Programmes Officer of FOSDA, Theodora Anti appealed to the media to give prominence to such issues as a means of empowering women to be responsible and effective in decision making in the country.

She made the call at a capacity building workshop organized by FOSDA in collaboration with the Media Foundation for West Africa in Tamale.

She said: “We consulted and realized that most of them did not have gender policies. We need to start walking the talk, as we say in Ghana. We have so many things that show commitment but implementation is our problem.”

According to her, a monitoring mechanism led by Media Foundation for West Africa has been put in place to monitor the 24 media houses we are working with, monitoring them day and night to determine how gender sensitive their programs are.”
