The first of the 2017 series of Vittles food events hits Accra this weekend, with the Vittles Souk II.

The Vittles Souk II brings two days of food, drinks and family entertainment to the African Regent Hotel’s Regent Gardens, venue for the 2016 Vittles Food Festival and the first Vittles Souk event.

The event will feature over 25 vendors from the best eateries in Accra, providing a variety of dishes ranging from sweet to spicy, African to European, hot to cold for food lovers from the local and international community.

Diffusion Ltd, an Accra-based communications consultancy, launched the Vittles Food Festival in 2015, following it up with another successful event in 2016. The response to these events has been so encouraging that the company subsequently launched a smaller spinoff event with the Vittles Souk.

Ezinu Adogla-Bessa, an Associate Consultant at Diffusion Ltd, explained the key differences between both events.

“The Souk is more of a marketplace or food bazaar, with the focus on the food vendors; as opposed to our annual food festival event which is packaged with additional food-related entertainment such as The Cacao Show [a dessert competition].”

The standard Vittles event setup, which includes kitchen sinks (with clean, running water), electricity connection points, handwash stations and a dedicated children’s area, limit the regularity with which the company is able to host these events. “Our partners, vendors and patrons have been asking for more frequent events, and we hope to satisfy their desires very soon. However, for now we are only able to set up for three events this year because it is so intensive,” Ms. Adogla-Bessa said.

The Vittles Food Festival will return in July 2017, and the company plans to host another Vittles Souk event later in November.

The Vittles events have involved over 2,500 guests of different nationalities and more than 60 unique vendors providing various dishes, ingredients and related products. Vittles fan favourites such as Fiona’s Foods, Nature’s Brew, Zero & Below, Jamrock Restaurant & Grill and Sankofa Spices will all be returning for the February event, along with new vendors such as Apple Pie Guys, Soul Restaurant & Bar, and Italian Pasta Enterprise.
