The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has advised the Volta River Authority (VRA) to revise its management practices to ensure efficiency and long term survival of the power generation sector.
Speaking at an inauguration ceremony to appoint new VRA Board members, Mr. Buah encouraged the board members to strive and to resolve the challenges posed by the influx of Independent Power Producers into the country.
He emphasized the need for VRA to aggressively revise its management practices to ensure efficiency and long term survival in the power generation sector.
“VRA’s importance to this country cannot be overemphasized but we are at the crossroads where VRA will have to begin to think seriously beyond the mandate that Dr . Nkumah led in the establishment of the VRA,” he said.
“Our country is a power generation, and needs are growing rapidly. It is growing and growing everyday and it is very critical that VRA as the key power generator, begin to look at all the options that Ghana has,” he added.
He also stated that it is imperative for VRA to look at their management practices and ensure that they can be very efficient in producing power.
The Former Minister of Education, Lee Ocran was appointed as the new head of the VRA board with other members including Ing Kirk Koffi; CEO of VRA, Stephen Opare ; a Structural Engineer, Nana Mprah Besemuna; a traditional ruler and retired Commissioner of Police, and NDC youth Organiser; Ludwig Hlodze.
