Ghana’s main opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks a regional secretariat in the Northern Region.
Having stayed in power for eight years, leadership of the party failed to build a regional party secretariat where party records can be kept.
Citi News gathered that late NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Salifu COP secured a parcel of land near the old Kaladan stadium in Tamale to build a regional secretariat.
After his death, the said parcel of land is been used for the construction of a fuel station which is 80% percent complete.
Current Northern Regional NPP Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu bemoaned the situation but told Citi News the party will soon acquire a regional secretariat.
When Ghana returned to civilian rule in 1992, the first NPP regional Chairman, the late Alhaji Yahaya Iddi sacrificed one of his stores near the Tamale Aboabo market as temporary regional secretariat.
The office has now been turned into a bicycle retail and repairing shop.
For this reason, the party’s meetings and conferences are held in rented hotel conference halls in Tamale.
