A Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the ‘Occupy Flagstaff House’ protestors cannot completely write-off Ghana as a failing state.
According to him, although the country is currently facing challenges, it is unfair for anyone to paint the picture of a nation with a bleak future.
The Deputy Minister in an interview with Citi News said the issues the protestors raised are known to government and steps are being taken to address them.
He noted that when “Ghana became the second fastest growing economy in the world after Quatar, the economy has not grown below 7% per annum.”
The rate of economic growth, according to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu does not indicate retrogression.”
He acknowledged there are major challenges the economy is saddled with “but I don’t think that we can completely write off our nation in the manner that the protestors seek to do. It will be unfair.”
A group of concerned Ghanaians on Ghana’s Republic Day petitioned the President to urgently address the economic hardships Ghanaians were experiencing.
The presentation of the petition was preceded by a five-hour demonstration amidst the heavy rains.
The President in his Republic Day message to the nation promised to continue to listen to the concerns of the citizens because they are the recipients of government policies and decisions.
He also pledged to put in more efficient measures to alleviate the plight of the populace.
