Selection of persons for nomination as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive positions has created tension within the camp of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region.

The deadline for submission of the list of three persons from each district is Thursday January 2.

The process is without challenges in all the 26 districts particularly in the North Gonja District.

15 people including four constituency executives of the Daboya/Mankarigu constituency are eyeing the DCE position.

The Wasipe NPP Youth Network in the North Gonja District is against the power vested in the constituency executives to do the selection.

The group appeals to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to broaden the scope by deepening grassroots participation in the selection process

The Communications Director, Dawuda Abdul Latif in a Citi News interview accused the party’s leadership in the area of open bias in the selection process.

He explained the group’s standpoint saying, “The association reserves that mandate to aggressively oppose the imposition of candidates who are not in our interest or candidates who do not represent pour preferred choice.”

He served notice that the group will resist any calculated attempt to impose an incompetent person on the North Gonja District.

“We will surely protest against the appointment of a DCE who is not abreast with issues prevailing in the constituency.”

“At least we have seen all of them and we know those who can actually do the work to satisfaction and because the President and the vice President are not on the ground we are on the ground and we know what we are talking.”
