Bimbilla chieftaincy crisis ; the political twist

Bimbila constituency Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied being on the run after the murder of Bimbila Naa Dasana Andani Abdulai II.

It was rumored that Alhaji Sualisu Aweisu fled Bimbila Township after Naa Dasana Andani Abdulai II died.

Some Bimbilla residents told Citi News the Bimbilla constituency NDC Chairman was on the police wanted list as one of the suspects linked to the murder of Naa Dasana Andani Abdulai II.

Alhaji Sualisu Aweisu in a telephone interview downplayed the claim but confirmed that majority of the suspects in police custody are his immediate family relations.

He mentioned among them former Director of the Northern Region Rural Integrated Program (NORRIP), Mr. Arthur Naatogmah and a former Bimbila District Chief Executive, Alhaji Iddrisu Sumaila Adam.

Politically, the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the Nanung Traditional Area is murky.

Unlike the Dagbon situation, majority of the NDC leadership and stalwarts in Bimbilla belong to the late Nakpaa Naa Salifu’s side of the chieftaincy divide which is politically aligned to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On the other hand, some of the NPP leadership and members of the party in Bimbilla either belong to or have been sympathetic to the murdered Naa Andani side of the chieftaincy divide which is linked to the governing NDC.

During Jerry Rawlings’ constitutional regime, the murdered Bimbilla chief was NDC Northern Regional Treasurer and a senior officer of the defunct Nasia Rice Company Limited in Tamale.
