Parliament breaks for two weeks

Barely a week after the inauguration of the seventh Parliament, sittings in the House has been adjourned to January 24, 2017.

The break is to allow the leadership of the House and Committee of Selection constitute the Standing and Select Committees, a move which would enhance the effective conduct of business in the legislature.

[contextly_sidebar id=”KRC04Aav7eoV5nHnrzM8tfoHopfiAdSr”]The seventh Parliament was inaugurated on the midnight of January 6, 2017 following the dissolution of the sixth Parliament.

In a related development the Appointments committee tasked with the vetting of ministerial nominees of President Nana Akufo Addo will begin work in a series of public hearings on January 20, 2017.

The Committee is expected to vet four nominees per day.

The 26-member Appointments Committee also known as Vetting Committee was constituted last Tuesday.

The committee has been tasked to vet the nominees for various ministerial portfolios from the Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo Addo.

It is chaired by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu while Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader of Parliament is a ranking member.

So far, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo has named 24 ministerial positions.
