The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is set to begin biometric registration in the Ashanti Region.

The issuing of biometric identity cards to subscribers is to ensure data integrity and improve linkages between attendance and claim management.

The exercise which has already started in the Greater-Accra, Central and Eastern regions, has registered about 800,000 subscribers.

Communications Manager of the Authority, Mr. Selorm Adornoo has been explaining to Citi News what they are doing to address the challenges encountered in previous exercises to forestall future occurrences.

He said, “we’ve learnt quite a number of lessons. The first being the crowd, we’ve done a number of things. One is introducing the booking system so that if people come, we are able to know how many people a machine can register. So if people come, we will give those people numbers and if they exceed that number, we put them on the next day. So they come on the next day and show their number and we know that they were here before.”

He went on to explain, “We are also setting up mobile teams which will be moving around and helping to defuse some of the crowds at some of the centers. We’ve learnt some few more lessons that we are seriously incorporating in our into our roll-out in the Ashanti region.”
