The Tema Regional Officer of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), Eleazor Nyawunu, says it is important for the labour front to unite and prevent government from laying huge numbers of public sectors off.

This, he said, has become necessary due to the increasing rate at which workers are being laid-off by employers.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Nyawunu said that he receives several letters a day from companies requesting for assistance on how to lay-off their employees.

Acoording to him, the figure, quoted as being the number of  people who were believed to have lost their jobs in the mining sector, was much lower than the actual number.

He believes that the rate at which people are losing their jobs in the public sector is very alarming and that the situation must be reversed as soon as possible.

Mr. Nyawunu added that the “government was in slumber and everything possible must be done to wake them up.”
