The Ministry of Interior has renewed the curfew hours on the Bunkprugu Township. The curfew bars all outdoor activities between 10:00pm to 4:00am, effective December 20, 2016.
This follows failed attempts to quell brewing chieftaincy conflicts between the Jamog and Jafog clans from the Bimoba community, which lead to the death of two persons earlier this year.
The statement signed by the sector Minister, Prosper Bani, and copied to Citi News, called on all stakeholders to exercise restraint in the face of provocations, and seek redress through non-violent means.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons. Offenders according to the statement will be arrested and prosecuted.
Tensions in Bunkpurugu
Several clashes between the factions in Bunkpurugu have resulted in numerous deaths and curfews, a trend that has worsened over the last few years.
Most recently, the police administration confirmed that 35 houses were destroyed during the renewed chieftaincy clashes in the Bunkprugu Township between the Jamong and Jafog Bimoba clans.
Three persons died whilst an unknown number of people fled the area into neighbouring Togo.
