The management of the Ghana School Feeding Programme has indicated it cannot guarantee the quality and quantity of food being fed to school children under the programme because they caterers are not being paid for their services.

The Programme currently owes about 5,000 caterers over GHC 100 million for the 2013/2014 academic year.

Speaking to Citi News, the National Coordinator of the programme, Seidu Adamu said the “no money syndrome” which has hit many government institutions is taking a toll on the programme.

He appealed to the Finance Ministry to settle the debts because “it affects the quality and quantity of food.”

According to him, their checks have revealed some caterers have all stopped cooking for the students “for the whole week, in some places, the quality has suffered and in some cases, both the quality and quantity have all suffered.”

Mr. Adamu added that the managers of the Programme are worried over the development because the health and safety of the students are at stake.
