Luis Suarez  might have been successful this time around, but it appears that the Uruguayan striker had previously failed in an attempt to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

FIFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against the the Uruguayan forward, after Suarez on Tuesday, appeared to have bitten the  defender on the shoulder with the game still goalless and Uruguay facing elimination.

Pictures have emerged, that appear to show Suarez trying to bite the same opponent a year earlier.

Uruguay and Italy had met in last year’s Confederation Cup in Brazil in a third place play-off match which Italy  won on penalties.

The pictures appear to show Suarez leaning into Chiellini’s right shoulder with his mouth open and teeth bared.

Tuesday’s match  was an opportunity for Suarez to finish what he started on Tuesday, one he couldn’t wait to sink his teeth into.
