Ghana is expected to become self sufficient in cement production by the first quarter of 2017 with the construction of more cement factories across the country.

Cement production in Ghana currently hovers around 6 million tonnes.

The figure is expected to go up to 9.2 million tonnes in 2017 with the coming on board of more cement factories into the country.

One of the latest to join in is CIMAF Ghana.

The company believes its production will boost competition in the cement industry and drive down the price of the product.

“Ghana now has more capacity to produce to feed Ghanaians more than required so we don’t even need imported cement which comes with a lot of problems that we don’t even know about,” Sales and Marketing Director of CIMAF Ghana, Joseph Kobina Aboo told Citi Business News.

The factory which is going to be entirely under Ghanaian management, created 1000 jobs directly and indirectly during its construction.

It currently employs 200 people.

Also, the more than 95% of Ghanaian workers are expected to provide continuity of the project for the years to come.
