Students at the Junior High Schools will begin studying critical thinking as a subject under a People’s National Convention (PNC) government led by its presidential candidate, Edward Mahama.

Dr. Mahama who is seeking to be president on December 7 said this at the GBC/NCCE Presidential debates held in Accra today, Wednesday.

Touching on what his government would do to improve education in Ghana, Dr. Mahama said he would adopt three ways to solve the issue.

“I will do three things; first, introduce at JHS, SHS level…the subject I call critical thinking which will allow students themselves to look at where they are going.”

Secondly, Dr. Mahama said he would introduce counsellors from kindergarten level up to tertiary to help shape and “guide students in the line in which they have skills.”

The PNC presidential candidate also said he would introduce strategic scholarship schemes for brilliant but needy students.

“We are going to introduce a portfolio of scholarships in the form of bursaries, grants, loans so that those who are very highly intelligent and poor to secure a better future.”

Five candidates were present at the debate; the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC), President John Mahama, the Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, the Independent Candidate, Joseph Osei Yeboah; the PNC’s Dr. Edward Mahama, and the Convention People’s Party (CPP)’s Ivor Greenstreet.
