Two out of the six missing ballot boxes of the Electoral Commission for the 2016 election, have supposedly been found at Apowa in the Ahanta West Constituency of the Western Region.
The boxes were found by a hairdresser, Janet Opare, on Tuesday, 22nd November, 2016 at about 2:30pm.

Janet told Citi News that on Tuesday at about 2:30pm, she saw two boxes falling off from a speeding pickup heading in the direction of Agona Nkwanta.
“…So we did not even mind until we saw that some school kids wanted to take them. I then asked one of my female apprentices to bring them in anticipation that the owner will return for them. So I kept them in my shop until this [Monday] morning when I heard on radio that some boxes were missing. I was assisted by some friends to contact you. That’s all that happened.”
Some journalists took the two ballot boxes (one broken), to the Kwesimintsim police station, where a call was placed to the regional EC office.
EC identifies the boxes
The Deputy Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Godwin Tawiah Okley, after visiting the Kwesimintsim Police Station, confirmed to Citi News that ” the two boxes are copies of the new EC ballot boxes for the 2016 general elections.”
The police officer at post at the Kwesimintsim Police Command directed Kwabena Amofa Akuaku, one of the journalists who assisted in transporting the boxes from Apowa to the Police Station, and the EC official to write their statements.
The two boxes are now in the custody of the Kwesimintsim Police Command pending further investigations.
NPP angry over 6 ‘missing’ ballot boxes from EC’s moving truck
Information about the missing boxes was first made known by the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Western Region, before the Electoral Commission confirmed it.
The Commission had said it will replace the missing ballot boxes, a response that got critics angry, as they demanded that the Commission locates the whereabouts of the boxes.
