The Forum of Ghanaian Elders (TGFE), have raised concerns about the increasing use of abusive language within Ghana’s media space.

The Forum said it has become important to check the language used on the various media platforms, especially as the country heads to the polls in December.

TFGE at a media briefing in Accra on Friday, said all speeches and addresses by politicians ahead of the elections, must be devoid of “careless talk” that have the potential of causing chaos in the country.

Speaking at the press conference, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Most Rev. Aboagye Mensah, called on journalists not to allow their platforms to be used to promote intemperate  language.

He reminded journalists that allowing politicians to make unguided statements, could result in civil unrest and chaos that would affect lives and property in the country.

He said it was commendable that the various ethnic groups in the country had a sound relationship.

“The relationship between Christians and Muslims in Ghana, is one of the best anywhere in the world.” – he added.

“During my time as the general secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, a team of Nigerians visited us to learn from us concerning the peaceful co-existence between Christians and Muslims in the country” he disclosed.

The press conference, which was under the theme, “The Magic of The Spoken Work; Careless Talk Cost Lives” had in attendance a former Minister of State, Mr. Badu Nkansah, Veteran Broadcaster Joe Lartey and Most Rev. Aboagye Mensah, former general secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana and presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana.
