The chiefs and people of the Effutu traditional area have apologized for accusing the NPP presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo  of using the phrase ‘simpa panyin’ during his campaign.

The chiefs of Winneba on Monday at press conference accused Nana Akuffo Addo for insulting the people of Effutu and called on him to apologise to them in within 48 hours.

The proverbial saying, which is in the Effutu language of the people of Winneba, is usually used to refer to an elderly person who sits unconcerned and allows things to go bad.

Nana Akufo-Addo is alleged to have referred to that adage, in addressing President John Dramani Mahama.

But addressing the media today [Friday], the Tufuhene of the Effutu Traditional Council, Neenyi Otubua Siripi II, said the accusation was based on what he described as a dubious tape which cannot be verified hence their apology.

“It has since come to our notice that the alleged recording upon which we made our earlier demands is of dubious quality and same cannot be verified. Indeed, upon further scrutiny, we have realised that Nana Akuffo-Addo never said anything derogatory about the people of Winneba,” he noted.

He however appealed to Nana Akuffo-Addo and the Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Alex Afenyo-Markin, and entreated government officials to stop misinforming people in their quest to seek for political power.

“We take this opportunity to strongly urge individuals and government officials to stop this conduct of feeding Nananom with false information aimed at gaining advantage over the other person” he stated.
