The Minister of Information and Media relations, Mr. Mahama Ayariga says government is working to ensure that the broadcasting bill is passed.

According to the Minister, the bill when passed will check levels of indecency in the media  and also compel the media to produce works based on guidelines.

“The broadcasting bill was drafted and submitted to the cabinet secretariat. The final stakeholder meeting has also been held so the bill is now ready to go before cabinet,” he explained.

The bill which was presented to parliament for consideration last two years has still not been passed.

Ghanaians have been complaining about the surge in the use of nudity in TV adverts and suggestive billboard and newspaper ads and the absence of a regulatory body to ensure standards.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Ayariga stated that government was committed to passing the bill. He also emphasized the need to protect public morality and values. The bill when passed will among other things regulate broadcasting operations in Ghana.
