The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union has issued a 21-day strike notice to government demanding a 300 percent pay rise.

The union wants Salaries and Remuneration Commission to recognize a collective bargaining agreement as directed by the courts.

Speaking during a press conference Saturday, Secretary General of the Union Dr. Ouma Oluga says the job evaluation exercise report that was released on Friday by SRC will not help doctors in their demands for a pay rise according to the CBA signed between the union and the government.

“The doctors in this country have been treated to a wind chase because every time we come out, every time we want to engage they take us in circles. This time round there will be no circles,” Oluga told journalists on Saturday.

“We want to advice the public that on the December 5th, if these salaries are not paid to us, all hospitals in this country will remain closed,” Oluga warned.

He says according to the CBA the lowest paid doctor should earn Sh342,000 while the highest should be earn Sh946,000.
